{"id":171,"date":"2016-03-30T07:30:39","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T07:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/?p=171"},"modified":"2016-03-30T07:30:39","modified_gmt":"2016-03-30T07:30:39","slug":"amsterdam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/2016\/03\/30\/amsterdam\/","title":{"rendered":"Amsterdam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-175 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06002-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC06002\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06002-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06002-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06002-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> We kicked off March by taking a weekend trip to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t really do a ton of research before we got there, but it was probably one of the coolest cities I&#8217;ve ever been to. \u00a0It was a nice break from all of the ancient architecture in most of the other cities I have visited earlier in Europe. \u00a0Overall Amsterdam just seemed extremely well planned and modern which was pretty awesome to see. \u00a0It seems like most cities <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-174 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05987-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC05987\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05987-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05987-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05987-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I&#8217;ve been to try implementing things like bike\u00a0lanes, but it is usually pretty sporadic. \u00a0In<br \/>\nAmsterdam bikes definitely have priority over the streets. \u00a0Every street has designated bike lanes (which we learned quickly not to walk in). \u00a0The other thing that they did to really show that bikes have the right of way is by making sidewalks continuous over streets. \u00a0That meant that on most of the side streets there was basically a large speed hump for cars at the intersection. Now onto more specifics about our trip&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 1<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-173 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05984-e1459322411257-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"DSC05984\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05984-e1459322411257-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC05984-e1459322411257-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When we landed it was a pretty rainy\/snowy and overall a gloomy day so we made our way to our Airbnb and got settled in. \u00a0Because it wasn&#8217;t really that nice of a day we worked on planning out the our next two days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We decided to just walk around all day Saturday and just take in all the modern architecture that is everywhere in Amsterdam. \u00a0After walking around for awhile, we all noticed how quite Amsterdam was, probably due to how few cars there are even in the city center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-176 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06087-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC06087\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06087-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06087-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cbehnke.com\/rome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC06087-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On our last full day in Amsterdam we decided to go to the Van Gogh Museum\u00a0(which was next to the MOMA housed in am huge bathtub building) and to go to the Heineken brewery for the &#8220;Heineken Experience.&#8221;
